Melody of Art Pre-Caucus Reception, Tuesday September 15th, 2015
The annual Pre-Caucus Reception, “Melody of Art” is always scheduled on the eve of one the most celebrated conferences held in the nation’s capital, with this year being no exception. On Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Atlas Performing Center Great Hall, 1333 H Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002, the Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts (CAAPA) hosts arts lovers, politicos, and business persons, in a gathering to celebrate the work of several outstanding individuals in the arts community. Showcased at the 9th annual event are also Black classical musicians, poets, and visual artists, while celebrating the 45th Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Conference.
Included among this year’s roster of CAAPA Awardees are C. Brian Williams, Founder and Executive Director of Step Afrika and Jacquie Gales Webb, prominent radio show personality and arts advocate. Also being honored are rising star musician, composer, actor and vocalist Gregory Watkins; Dr. Nevilla Ottley, founder and Director of the Ottley School of Music; and Terrence Tarver, tenor, who also serves on the White House Initiative for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Past CAAPA Award recipients include Maestro Stanley Thurston, Rev. Dr. Delores Carpenter, Dr. J. Weldon Norris, Maestro Richard Smallwood, Bonita White, Kathy Brewington, Marco Merrick, Dr. Lester Green, Darin Atwater, Dr. Joyce Garrett, and others.
The informal business chic reception, which also features an cash bar with CAAPA’s signature cocktail “Opera-tini”, is a free to the public event, but pre-registration is requested by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
