Meet the Author
The Friends of the Oxon Hill Library invites you to attend an event featuring the Honorable Roland W Burris. Senator Burris has written his memoirs in a book entitled, the Man Who Stood Up to be Seated: A Controversial Appointment to the United States Senate. Come on out to hear from the man who filled the Illinois Senate seat vacated when Barack Obama was elected President of the United States. Senator Burris, a career civil servant, held several elected positions in the State of Illinois, including serving as its Comptroller for three consecutive terms and one term as Attorney General, before being appointed by the controversial Governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich.
Senator Burris will be in town during the Congressional Black Caucus’ Annual Legislative Conference and will discuss his book on Saturday, September 19, 2015 starting at 1:00 p.m. in the auditorium at the Oxon Hill Library, 6200 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745, (301) 839-2400, take Exit 4B off the Beltway (495).* This event is FREE and OPEN to the public.
There will be a Q&A session at the end of the discussion and from 2:00 p.m. thru 2:30 p.m., a reception and book signing.
